The Eagles are scraping off their older defensive backs, informing James Bradberry IV that he will be released, one day after parting ways with Darius Slay.
Bradberry, who will be 32 when the 2025 season starts, spent the last two seasons with the Eagles after stints with the Panthers and Giants. He is being released with a post-June 1 designation for cap purposes, but he is eligible to negotiate with other teams when the new league year begins on March 12.
Slay, a six-time Pro Bowl cornerback — as recently as 2023 — just turned 34. He wanted to remain with the Eagles on a team-friendly deal, but said he wants to play one more season before retiring. His 160 career passes defensed are the most among active players, including 13 in 2024, which is his yearly average over a 12-season career.
Smart by the Eagles. They hit home runs in last year's draft with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, so they are set at outside corner and slot for another decade. No one does pro and amateur scouting better than Philly, so Slay and Bradberry will be ably replaced.
