The Pirates are trading left-handed pitcher BaileyFalter to the Royals for left-handed pitcher Evan Sisk and first baseman Callan Moss, per source.
Somewhat surprising to see Falter heading elsewhere after carving out a role as a consistent contributor within the Pirates' starting rotation. He was a 2.9 WAR pitcher over the last three seasons, as he went 17-16 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 60 appearances (57 starts) for the Pirates.
I've been told by a source that Falter was considered a non-tender candidate, despite the fact that he's 7-5 with a 3.73 ERA and 1.18 WHIP over 22 starts this season. Falter's deal was worth $2.2 million.
Sisk, 28, has made five relief appearances for the Royals this season. He allowed one run and struck out 11 over 5 1/3 innings. He had four saves, a 3.77 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 31 relief appearances with Class AAA Omaha. Last year at the Class AAA level, he went 6-2 with 15 saves, a 1.57 ERA, 81 strikeouts and a .166 batting average against in 58 appearances.
Moss, 21, is another Class A player acquired by the Pirates. He hit .270 with a .372 on-base percentage, 22 doubles and 70 RBIs in 92 games with high Class A Quad Cities this season. He doesn't have a ton of power for a first baseman, as he only has seven home runs in 330 at-bats.
