Pirates assigned $14.08 million in bonus pool money
The Pirates will have $14,088,400 in bonus pool money to work with in the 2025 Major League Baseball draft, which is the ninth-highest amount among the 30 teams.
The league announced bonus pools and slot values for this year's draft on Wednesday. For those that are unaware about bonus pools and slot values, each pick in the first 10 rounds of the draft comes with an assigned value. The value of those picks add up to what a team can spend in the first 10 rounds which amounts to their bonus pool.
If a team outspends its pool by 0-5% it has to pay a 75% tax on the overage. The penalty increases the more a team spends and can result in a loss of draft picks as well. However, in 13 drafts with the bonus pool rules, no team has surpassed the 5% mark.
The Pirates are currently set to draft sixth this year, which comes with a slot value of $7,558,600. Their second pick will come at No. 50 in the second round and it has an assigned slot value of $1,934,700.
The Pirates' third pick, which will come in the Competitive Balance Round B group at No. 73, has a slot value of $1,128,400.
Here are the slot values for their picks in the first 10 rounds:
