Don Kelly earned his first managerial win tonight as the Pirates defeated the Braves, 3-2, behind home runs from Alexander Canario and Jared Triolo. Ill provide updates from the clubhouse here:
• Kelly came into his press conference in a different set of clothes, said he got soaked after the win: "It was cold. It's really cold."
• Kelly on earning his first managerial win: " (It feels) really good, especially the way the guys competed tonight, grinded it out. Came through when they needed to. Felt the energy was good and the way they played was really impressive."
• As far as the late change with Tommy Pham and Canario, Kelly said Pham was feeling a little under the weather so they decided to change it up.
• Kelly on the Braves cutting the Pirates' lead to one in the ninth inning: "In those games, like that's baseball. That's fun. Everybody is on the edge of their seat and you know, Dennis (Santana) did a great job of settling things down and coming through. He's a pro and that's the energy we're looking for."
• Kelly was also really excited for Canario and said things are starting to work out for him.
• Bailey Falter attributed a lot of his success tonight to locating his fastball and said once he developed that, everything played off it really well: "The last two starts, the heater has been in a really good spot. Feel like we've been executing it really well."
• Falter added that they soaked Kelly with everything you can imagine: "There was a lot of stuff going on that man tonight."
• Before his sixth-inning home run, Triolo said the left field wall seemed like it was getting "further and further" away after a few close ones during the Pirates' last home stand: "To see it go over the wall, it really felt good."
