Former WPIAL star Adou Thiero was taken sixth by the Lakers in the second round of the NBA Draft, 36th overall. The Lakers traded up with the Nets to take Thiero.
Thiero, a junior forward out of Arkansas, graduated in 2021 from Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale. He was named WPAIL Player of the Year and Pennsylvania Class 4A Player of the Year after taking Quaker Valley to the PIAA championship game, averaging 23.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 3.9 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
After two seasons at Kentucky, Thiero joined John Calipari, who recruited him out of high school, at Arkansas where Thiero had his best collegiate season last year, putting up 15.1 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
Scouting reports say Thiero will need to improve his three-point shooting to become an NBA regular, but his athleticism, effort and defensive ability should earn him a backup role with the Lakers.
