Anthony Beauvillier only recently became a regular part of the Penguins' penalty-kill.
Beauvillier would get the occasional game with penalty-killing time over the course of the season when it was needed due to injuries to other forwards. But when Drew O'Connor was traded to the Canucks at the start of last month, it created a need for a regular penalty-killing forward to step up, and Beauvillier was that guy.
Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Bruins marked the seventh game in which Beauvillier has been a regular penalty-killer since that trade, and it's fair to say things are going pretty well.
Beauviller has seen the ice for a total of 8:11 short-handed in that stretch. The Penguins have allowed 10 shots on goal and recorded two ... and they've broken even on the goals. Matvei Michkov's power-play goal for the Flyers on Thursday was the only such goal Beauvillier was on the ice for in that span, and he made up for it with a goal of his own in Saturday's loss.
The Bruins were up 2-0 late in the third period when Blake Lizotte took an interference penalty. With 28 seconds remaining on the penalty, Beauvillier got the Penguins on the board:
It was a nice finish from Beauvillier, but Kevin Hayes' fingerprints were all over that too. David Pastrnak lost the puck, and Hayes was able to use his speed to recover it and carry it into the Bruins' end. Once he got to the right dot, he shook off the two trailing Bruins until Beauvillier got into the slot and into position to bury the pass.
"He's got some finishing capability," Mike Sullivan said of Beauvillier. "We've started to work him into the penalty-kill. He just embraces any role we give him. I think he's been a good player for us."
