The Penguins reportedly defenseman Conor Timmins and forward Connor Dewar from the Maple Leafs in exchange for a fifth-round pick
With the trade call coming so late in the day on Friday, they won't be in the Penguins' lineup this evening against the Golden Knights, the plan is for both players to get into Las Vegas on Friday night and take the ice with the Penguins for Saturday's practice.
Timmins, 26, is a right-handed shot and fills the void left by the Vincent Desharnais deal on the right side of the Penguins' blue line. He's listed at 6 foot 3 and 217 pounds, and has two goals, six assists and a plus-2 rating in 51 games with Toronto this season. Kyle Dubas was general manager of the OHL's Soo Greyhounds when he selected Timmins in the OHL draft, and Dubas again acquired him amid the 2022-23 season when he was in Toronto.
Timmins is in the final year of a two-year contract that carries a $1.1 million cap hit and will be a restricted free agent this summer.
Dewar, 25, is a left-handed center and wing listed at 5 foot 10 and 192 pounds. He has no goals, three assists and a minus-3 rating in 31 NHL games this season, and one goal and one assist in one game with the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
Dewar set career highs in goals and points in his 2023-24 season split between the Wild and Maple Leafs, accumulating 11 goals and eight assists in 74 games.
Dewar is on a one-year contract with a $1.18 million cap hit and will be a restricted free agent this summer..
